Habersham Holiday Farmers Market & Charity Run!

The Habersham Marketplace is very pleased to be hosting the Trot for Tots 5k Run and Tot Walk this Friday, December 2 at 5PM. This event is a class project for students at USC-Beaufort benefiting the US Marine Corps Reserves' Toys for Tots program. Come out and support our local students’ effort and help to raise money and donations for a worthwhile charity!

The 5k run will follow a course through the neighborhood similar to that of the Beaufort Twilight Run.
Please note: the neighborhood streets WILL NOT BE CLOSED.
Please use caution if you choose to drive between 5-6PM on Friday evening and yield to the runners.

Market Street, however, WILL BE CLOSED for the event and for a great holiday Farmers Market. With all of the activities going on, we encourage all of you to come hang out in the Habersham Marketplace.

Make sure and bring the kids to see Santa!

Jazz on the Lawn Night Is Almost Here!

Join Habitat for Humanity's Women Build Program for Jazz on the Lawn, a benefit concert, on Sunday, November 13 at the Habersham Marketplace. All proceeds benefit LowCountry Habitat for Humanity's current building project: The Women Build House.

Beaufort's own Blue Mudd will be providing the entertainment, from 4:00 until 6:00 pm, and the Marketplace restaurants will be serving up menu favorites for concertgoers. The ReStore truck will also be at the event to accept donations.

Bring a chair, some refreshments and enjoy the sounds of Jazz in the Habersham Marketpalce!

The Habersham Marketplace in Beaufort, SC, will host a “Blues and Brews” night during its next First Fridays' event October 7, beginning at 4 p.m. In addition to an expanded farmer’s market and arts, crafts and specialty food vendors, the event will feature live music by Blues artist Jeff Norwood and various craft beer offerings. 'First Fridays' events are part of an ongoing event and entertainment series that is free to attend and organized by the merchants of The Habersham Marketplace.

Blues artist Jeff Norwood is a South Carolina native who can be found performing weekly throughout the Southeastern United States. Norwood is an approved artist on the South Carolina Arts Commission Artist Roster for Performing Arts in Education and presents programs and workshops on roots music and its origins throughout the state. He has performed at several notable festivals: The former King Biscuit Blues Festival in Helena, AK, Piccolo Spoleto in Charleston, SC, The Juke Joint Fest in Clarksdale, MS, the former Riverwalk Blues Festival in Ft. Beaufort Hosts Second 'Lt. Dan Weekend' Event

For the second year in a row, the Independence Fund is hosting actor Gary Sinise as he leads his Lt. Dan Band in a concert honoring our severely injured veterans as part of "Lt. Dan Weekend 2". On Thursday, September 15th the award-winning documentary "Lt. Dan Band: For the Common Good" will be screened outdoors at Beaufort's Harry C. Chambers Waterfront Park and free to attend. Director/Producer, Jonathan Flora, has been touring the film and hosting special screenings across the country in locations where the Lt. Dan Band has performed. As part of the weekend-long event, the public is invited to see the film Thursday and come back to the park on Friday, September 16th for the live performance!

Tickets to the Lt. Dan Band Benefit Concert on September 16th, 2011 are on sale now and can be purchased here online or at a variety of local businesses in Beaufort. You can stay up to date by finding the Lt. Dan Band on Facebook or Twitter and following developments as the event draws closer.

In addition to the screening of the movie and concert, the weekends festivities will include a family 5K through historic downtown Beaufort, a fully supported bicycle ride for the veterans, and Conflict Zone, a Photographic Exhibit featuring the dramatic works of some of the top photojournalists from Getty, the Washington Post and the New York Times. Habersham Easter Egg Hunt and Brunch

The world famous Habersham Easter Egg Hunt and Brunch is upon us! Please join us promptly at 9:30 am on Saturday, April 23 at the Park House for the festivities.

The brunch is potluck; please bring a favorite brunch dish (that can serve 6-8) to share with friends and neighbors. Coffee for the adults and milk for the children will be provided.

This event is not just for the kids - it is a great brunch for all!

Parents - for every child you have participating, please provide one dozen filled plastic eggs. You may drop them off at the Habersham Sales Office, 22 Market, by noon on Friday, April 22.

The gardens surrounding the Park House will be divided in to sections by age, so even the littlest of our egg hunters will have a chance to find some goodies.

Habersham Marketplace Seeks Talent for Second “Beaufort’s Got Talent” Contest

The Habersham Marketplace will host its second installment of “Beaufort’s Got Talent” on Friday, May 6, from 6-8 p.m. as part of the larger FIRST FRIDAYS event, which begins at 4 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Contestants for the talent show will compete for prizes from area merchants and the winner will be awarded a performance slot at the Third Annual Habersham Harvest Festival in October. In keeping with the structure of the monthly FIRST FRIDAYS events, the event will feature an expanded farmers market, children’s activities and food vendors from the Marketplace and the surrounding county from 4-7 p.m.

Habersham Earth Day Celebration

Habersham will celebrate its second annual Earth Day on Friday, April 15th, from 4 to 7 pm in conjunction with The Farmers Market. Come learn about different programs and projects that can help keep our community green and the environment safe. This event has something for residents and non residents alike, and is designed to appeal to all ages…from 5 to 95! Included in this event will be folks from Beaufort County Recycling, the Friends of Hunting Island, Habitat for Humanity, the Open Land Trust, the Sierra Club, and local Scouts, just to name a few of the participants.

We will also showcase art from students in our community that is composed of 90% recycled materials. Expect to see innovation and creativity from these young artists. While learning more about green efforts, enjoy the Farmers Market and Marketplace, which includes shops and restaurants, and the wonderful playground near the Marketplace.

Reminder! Habersham Cares Day Saturday, March 26, 2011

On Saturday, March 26, from 9-12, Habersham will again host Habersham Cares Day. This is a three part charity event to help those in need in our community, and so provides our community various ways to participate. It will consist of a door-to-door collection of items for Habitat for Humanity, a food drive to benefit Harvest Hope Food Pantry and a blood drive through The Blood Alliance.

If you have items to donate to Habitat, please call Jean Brown to schedule a pick-up. You do not have to be home... just leave the item(s) on your porch or in the alley, as arranged with Jean. Habitat does NOT accept clothing, and all items must be in good working condition.

If you can donate canned or unopened boxed food, please leave it in a bag or box in the post office between April 21 - April 27 noon.

The Blood Alliance bloodmobile will be parked in the alley next to the Habersham office from 9-12. The Blood Alliance is the only blood supplier to Beaufort Memorial Hospital. Who knows when someone in Habersham will benefit from your generosity. Please consider donating at www.igiveblood.com. If you have trouble making an appointment, please call or email me, and I will do it for you. We encourage you to eat plenty of iron-rich foods between now and then, to drink plenty of water the previous day and to be sure to eat a good breakfast that morning.

2011 Beaufort Twilight Run at Habersham

Dear Neighbors,

I'm sure that you know by now that the 3rd Annual Beaufort Twilight Run & Oyster Roast is tomorrow! It's going to be a beautiful day so we hope that all of you will come out to enjoy the fun.

So far, 1100 people have signed up to participate in the Kid's Fun Run, the 5K Fun Walk, the 5K Run and the 8K Run; over 600 people have signed up for the oyster roast catered by Sea Eagle; and we'll have 120 volunteers working on race day - many are Habersham residents - thank you!!

We do have one BIG favor to ask of everyone if possible: Please try to NOT drive in or out of Habersham between 5pm - 7pm on Saturday. There will be many runners and walkers on the roads. If you must drive, please look for a volunteer to escort you in/out of the neighborhood (or give you a 'clear' exit route). Volunteers will be everywhere in khaki colored shirts.

Today we will have registration and bag pickup in front of EarthFit from 4pm - 7pm. If you've registered, please come on down and pickup your race information and/or Oyster Roast tickets. If you haven't registered and want to, do it today! Saturday will be busy and there will be a limited number of oyster roast tickets available on Saturday. Piace Pizza is serving a great pre-race pasta dinner tonight as well - and they'll have live music starting at 7pm (call 379-EATS for reservations)!

A group of Habresham residents, fronted by Muriel Eingurt, are establishing a wonderful tradition here at Habersham! The second HABERSHAM CARES DAY will be Saturday, March 26th. The event encourages Habersham residents to give back to the greater Beaufort community. In the event's first year, because of residents generosity, the group donated 23 units of blood to The Blood Alliance, a full truckload of furniture and household goods to Habitat for Humanity and a trunk of canned goods for St. Peter Church Outreach Pantry.

This year, the group will be raising awareness and collecting donations for The Blood Alliance, Habitat for Humanity and Harvest Hope Food Pantry. The Blood Alliance "Bloodmobile" will be in Habersham from 9 am-12 noon; appointments to donate can be made online at www.igiveblood.com. The Habersham Marketplace in Beaufort, SC will host its 4th Annual Chili Cook – Off Saturday, February 5, from 1-4 p.m. Contestants are invited to compete in the Amateur category for $20, Restaurant Chefs/Professional category for $40 and Service Personnel are invited to participate free of charge. Entries must be received by January 31. Entry forms are available online at www.habershammarketplace.com/chiliregistration.pdf or by emailing events@habershammarketplace.com.

Tickets to the event, sold for $10 (under 12 admitted free of charge), will be available for purchase on site February 5 beginning at 12:30 p.m. Attendees will be able to listen to live music, sample chili from competitors throughout the day and vote for their favorite. Beverages will be available for purchase from Maggie’s Pub and Piace Pizza. Children’s activities will also be available.

"This is a favorite event of The Marketplace," said Marketplace Merchant Council President Leslie Pickel. "We love seeing folks from the community visit Habersham and watch our competitors pull out all the stops to entice the public for their vote. It's an enjoyable time for kids of all ages!"

Ticket sales and voting will be held under the Marketplace Plaza Tent. Winners will be announced from the Main Stage between 3:30 - 4 p.m. and will receive a cash prize and a signature chili-champion trophy.

Every day patients in southern region of the United States need blood transfusions to recover from illness and injury. Our goal is to collect about 350 pints daily to meet these patient needs. We hope you will join us by giving the Gift of Life - a blood donation.

Habersham Halloween Spooktacular Parade and Trick or Treat Eve

The Halloween fun begins Saturday, October 30 at 4:30 pm in the Habersham Marketplace.

Fun includes the Spooktacular Parade (starts by the fire house), tricks or treats from the merchants, the costume contest, games, and ends with the Spooky Meal (rsvp's were required).

Trick or treating in the neighborhood starts immediately following the Marketplace festivities. Look for houses with their lights on! There are sure to be some good treats there.

As a reminder, Market Street will be closed from the fire house down to Le Chene Circle for the parade and will reopen once the fun is over.

Beaufort's Shrimp Festival is a favorite event that celebrates Lowcountry cuisine and incorporates fun activities for all ages. Local restaurants offer samples of Lowcountry dishes featuring shrimp. Prizes are awarded for "best recipe" and "most creative recipe" honors. Highlights of the event include: Friday evening concert in the park featuring live entertainment and yummy shrimp with lighted shrimp boats providing the backdrop for the event. Saturday's festivities begin with a 5k Run over Woods Memorial Bridge, and a 5k "Walk through History" in the historic Old Point neighborhood in Beaufort. Restaurants prepare delicious shrimp specialties to the delight of the large crowds that attend the event each year. Saturday's events also include a servers' race, arts & crafts, live entertainment, a special race for kids (the "Popcorn Shrimp Race"), food and drinks. In a nutshell: Enjoy Lowcountry traditions and cuisine and dance under the stars.

As every year, we are proud to partner with The South Carolina Shrimpers Association to bring you this event. This year, we are honored to also partner with Independence Fund, a non-profit organization who’s mission is to support wounded war veterans. This new partnership grants us the opportunity to bring you Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band performing Friday, October 1. First Aid Classes for the Habersham Community

Many Habersham residents who participated in our CERT & CPR classes had asked for basic & advanced first aid instruction. Before we begin to plan for Halloween & the Nov/Dec holidays, please consider participating in this valuable opportunity:

Both Saturday sessions will be held at the Habersham Park House. Each class can accomodate 12 participants.

OCTOBER 2ND: 8AM UNTIL 12 NOON cost: $8 (for Red Cross certification); $3 (for instruction booklet only): Basic First Aid

OCTOBER 9TH: 8AM UNTIL 2PM (plan for a "working lunch") cost: $ 5: for Advanced First Aid (adapted from the EMS Advanced First Aide course)

If you have young children at home, both courses would be most helpful to you! If you have pre teens or teenagers, we would welcome their participation.

Local Celebrity Firefighter on Hand to Raise Money for Burn Victims

Beaufort, SC - August 26th, 2010 - The Habersham Marketplace in Beaufort, SC, will host its fifth “First Fridays” event on Friday, September 3, beginning at 4 p.m. The event is part of a free and ongoing summer series open to the Beaufort community. “First Fridays” events boast an expanded Farmer’s Market with local and regional growers, along with arts, crafts, specialty food vendors and live music from 4-9 p.m.

Special guest Heidi Charest, a Beaufort local and Lady’s Island firefighter, will be on hand representing America’s Female Firefighters’ (AFF) 2011 calendar. Charest is one of 12 women featured for exemplifying good health, fitness, moral character and dedication to their profession. Proceeds from calendar sales at First Fridays will benefit AFF’s mission to raise funds for the benefit of burn survivors throughout the United States. Part of the $50,000 raised from the sale of the 2010 calendar helped benefit the Burn Camp of St. Christophers on Seabrook Island in the Lowcountry.

The schedule for the September 3 “First Fridays” is:

NEW! Kids 4th of July Art Contest...Turn in your art work at the Habersham Sales Office by Wednesday June 30th. Art work will be displayed and the winner will be announced at the parade.

4:45 pm - Parade around Mum Grace Park
Decorate your bike, your golf cart, your dog, your kids, yourselves and join us in the park! The parade begins promptly at 5:00 pm.

7:00 pm - Cookout at the Swimming Pool
Hot dogs, hamburgers, limited veggie burgers, buns, condiments, paper products, potato chips, and desserts will be provided. Please bring a side dish, salad, or appetizer to share that serves 8+ (& don't forget a serving utensil). Food will be served around 7:30pm. Remember: The cookout is BYOB (both kids' and adult beverages) and no glass is allowed at the pool. (You might want to bring a chair, too, and leave any firecrackers, sparklers, and caps at home.)

Habersham resident Ted Becker is a true artist and that is evident in his latest contribution to the Lowcountry Habitat for Humanity's annual Birdhouse Auction. Ted has designed birdhouses for past auctions that are inspired by the residential and civic structures in Habersham. This year, Ted introduced his "River Retweet" interpretation of the Habersham River Retreat Pavilion. The annual fundraising auction is this Friday night, May 14th.
